The right-populist regime of the President of Colombia, Ivan Duke, in such a difficult period for the population of the country, once again shows its ugly essence, is manifested not only in radical repressive anti-people politics, but also in outright ethnocide against the indigenous peoples of Colombia.

On April 20, 2020, the regional indigenous organization Valle del Cauca condemned the refusal to allow its members to work in national, regional and local institutions in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We are in a state of complete exclusion from the work of the authorities, which is a sign of selfishness, indifference and racism, and leads to the fact that indigenous people today are isolated on their territory without protective equipment and with an insufficient number of essential goods. There is an economic, social and cultural crisis in our communities, which are currently observing internal isolation conditions in their territories in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are resisting the humanitarian crisis, but our food supplies are already exhausted, because the assistance promised by the national government does not reach our villages. For this reason, we demand that the authorities urgently provide indigenous communities with assistance in the supply of food and remedies. The regional organization of indigenous peoples also requires that the local, regional and national authorities of each state institution work in compliance with the provisions laid down in regulatory enactments aimed at protecting the life, health and well-being of indigenous people” – the statement said.
